Disney Twitter Account Trolled by Fans Due to Encanto's Character

While you would think that Disney would be best placed to know their own movies, fans of Encanto recently trolled the studio on their own Twitter account thanks to them seemingly misrepresenting one of their own characters.

In a post that celebrated Luisa’s ability to “juggle” everything with unique strength, fans couldn’t help but point out that Encanto’s message when it comes to the character is that it is in fact impossible to show the constant strength that she is expected to for most of the movie.

Encanto was one of those movies that really finds its audience after its theatrical run has ended. Having made a mediocre impact on the box office, Encanto seemed to seemed destined to be one of those movies that pad out the Disney catalogue of mega-hits, bit then it arrived on Disney+ and all that changed. The main reason for the movie’s second-wind success came from its songs, led by the number one single We Don’t Talk About Bruno, which dominated the charts like no other Disney movie soundtrack.

However, behind the catchy tunes, the movie had a definite message to tell, which was that everyone had their place in the world, and not everyone is the person they appear to be or people expect them to be. This is true of Luisa, the sister of Mirabel who is super strong and muscular, but also has a great pressure to meet expectations weighing her down, which is revealed in the song Surface Pressure. However, Disney’s post below doesn’t exactly tap into that way of thinking, which fans were quick to point out.

Encanto Is Set To Become Another Big Disney Franchise

Earlier this year, Disney CEO Bob Chapek revealed that the surprise hit that had been Encanto seemed to have led to the creation of a new franchise, and there are certainly plenty of avenues for the movie to be taken in, even if its story was seemingly told. Chapek said back in February:

“We’ve had a very strong start to the fiscal year, with a significant rise in earnings per share, record revenue and operating income at our domestic parks and resorts, the launch of a new franchise with Encanto, and a significant increase in total subscriptions across our streaming portfolio to 196.4 million, including 11.8 million Disney+ subscribers added in the first quarter...”

Of course, we know that these things take time, and while there could be plans already been made for the next step in Encanto’s future, it could be a while before we see any of it arrive on screen. For now though, the original Encanto and a Sing-along version are available on Disney+ and for fans of the movie there is also talk of a number of possible spin-offs being put into development as well as a potential stage adaptation heading to Broadway.

With Disney’s Frozen, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and the phenomenal The Lion King among the movies that have successfully made it to Broadway and beyond, and with the power of songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda behind it, there is little doubt that at some point we will see Encanto lighting up theaters around the world.
